WWelcome to FreeSchools World Literacy - Canada

A Warm Welcome to Canadian Visitors!

In the spirit of the United Nations’ Millennial “Education for All” Campaign, The FreeSchools World Literacy Charity was originally founded in Canada in 2005 and registered in 2006 (charitable registration #83157 5477 RR0001).

Generous donors from around the world have helped us spread an informal education model for impoverished children in rural India and Thailand. In just 5 years, 2 free evening schools have grown to 80 FreeSchools, educating thousands of kids, especially girls. Every year our teachers become more skilled and the curriculum expanded. We’re getting better and better and so are the children and their parents.

We use borrowed space and focus our investment on teachers and learning materials. It’s school on a shoestring but it meets the need and stimulates initiative. Villagers build their own schools. Dedicated volunteers pay their own way and a frugal philosophy keeps our expenses low. It means your Canadian dollar is maximized in the field and goes a very long way in saving a precious life from ignorance and poverty.

We’d like to shout it from the rooftops! In India, just $15/year provides a child’s education for one year! With this amazing value, almost anyone in Canada can save the life of an illiterate child in India.

We thank you for learning about FreeSchools and for your support. Please spread the word to family and friends or write us if you want to get involved. We’d love to hear from you.
