Support FreeSchools
In rural Asia, a little money goes a long way. We make every cent of donated money count for change. FreeSchools can educate a child for just $15/year because our model is simple. We partner with a charitable group in the community that finds space and handles logistics. We pay for teacher training, salaries, learning materials, nutritious snacks and a set of clothes. The dedication and integrity of the teachers (Hindu, Muslim, Buddhist and Christian - all women) drive the spirit of FreeSchools. In return, FreeSchools helps them uplift their community and earn a decent salary.
The learning facility varies from village to village. Sometimes an existing mission school or government school is used after closing hours. Other times FreeSchool is in an orange grove warehouse, covered veranda, or under a large shady tree. Often it's simply in some one's donated back yard. The space is always secured so the children are safe. If there's room, mothers gather round to learn as well.
FreeSchool is two hours daily but it's not unusual to have back-to-back FreeSchools well into the evening with 60 children crowding around a small battery-charged light. The children are hungry to learn and anxious to achieve. No one forces them to go to school. FreeSchool is optional and as awareness spreads the demand is growing. All villages would benefit from a FreeSchool and there are a million villages in India.
We need your donations, large and small, to expand this cost-effective model. Your generosity will help break the cycle of ignorance and poverty, one village at a time.
Please see the SUPPORT OPTIONS for making a DONATION.
